Container logistics

What types of containers can GLOMB transport?

We transport standard and high-cube containers, reefer and insulated containers, as well as open-top and flat-rack units. In addition, we transport bulk containers – although the use of tipper chassis is only possible for 20’ containers – as well as suitable dangerous goods containers.
Our chassis and trailers are designed to handle this variety, enabling us to offer a suitable solution for virtually any containerised load.

How does GLOMB ensure quality and safety in container logistics?

We rely on a modern fleet of trucks, trained drivers and standardised processes. Load securing, terminal interfaces and special requirements such as dangerous goods or reefers are subject to clear procedures. Through telematics and experience gained from many years in container logistics, we identify risks at an early stage and can take countermeasures.

How sustainable is GLOMB’s container logistics?

We reduce emissions through modern trucks, alternative fuels and the use of battery-electric tractors in suitable areas. In addition, we analyse driving behaviour and fuel consumption to derive concrete improvements from the data. In this way, container logistics is becoming more resource-efficient step by step, without compromising on reliability.

What does GLOMB’s container logistics involve in detail?

For us, container logistics means reliably organising the entire journey of the container. This includes local transport, long-distance transport within Germany, routes to western ports, transport to Eastern Europe, and pre- and post-carriage for China Rail. We transport all standard container types and can also accommodate special requirements such as reefer containers or dangerous goods.

How does a typical container transport operation work?

It all starts with your enquiry, specifying the route, container type and desired timeframe. Our dispatch team checks available capacity and prepares a quote. Once the order is placed, we plan pick-ups, terminal calls and deliveries, and actively monitor the transport. You receive status updates as required and a transparent invoice upon completion of the transport.

Can container transport be combined with other services?

Yes, container transport can be combined with a wide range of additional services. These include, for example, temporary storage, handling, VGM weighing, container sealing and other specialised transport services. We coordinate these elements to ensure that your entire transport chain remains as streamlined and efficient as possible.

Local transport

What advantages does GLOMB offer in local transport?

Thanks to our proximity to the ports and a large fleet, we can react quickly to vessel arrivals, terminal interfaces and slot times. This allows us to reduce dwell times and optimally align container flows with vessel and rail schedules. Customers benefit from regional expertise and well-established processes with the terminals.

How is the connection to warehouses and packing facilities organised?

We work with various warehouses, packing sheds and depots around the seaports. Containers can be stowed, handled or temporarily stored there. Our dispatch team coordinates the processes with the locations involved to ensure your transport chain remains seamless from delivery to handling.

Can local transport services be combined with long-distance transport?

Local transport is often combined with subsequent long-distance transport or other logistics components. We plan both areas as part of a comprehensive concept, ensuring that handovers between local and long-distance transport run seamlessly. This reduces interfaces and simplifies your transport planning.

What does GLOMB mean by local container transport?

For us, local transport refers to regional container transport around Bremerhaven, Bremen, Hamburg and Wilhelmshaven. This includes pick-ups from shippers, transfers between terminals, depots and warehouses, as well as transport within seaports. The aim is to move containers within the port region quickly, flexibly and in a terminal-friendly manner.

Are short-notice deliveries also possible for local transport?

Many assignments can be carried out at short notice, as we have numerous trucks operating in the port regions on a daily basis. Specific availability depends on capacity, the route and terminal opening hours. If you let us know your requirements, we will get back to you promptly with the options available.

How does GLOMB deal with bottlenecks at terminals in local transport?

Our dispatch team closely monitors the situation at the terminals and plans deliveries to keep waiting times to a minimum. If conditions change at short notice, we inform our customers and work together to find alternatives. These may include, for example, changed time slots or an adjustment to the order of deliveries.

Long-distance transport

How is on-time delivery ensured?

Our dispatch team carefully plans transit times, journey schedules and connections to terminals or customer collection points. Telematics and experience help us assess risks such as traffic congestion or seasonal peaks. If external factors come into play, we coordinate any necessary adjustments with you at an early stage.

How is on-time delivery ensured?

In addition to standard shipments, we also handle projects involving multiple containers, coordinated schedules and special requirements. This may include, for example, the simultaneous transport of standard containers, reefer containers and special cargo. In such cases, it makes sense to involve us at an early stage so that we can develop a suitable overall concept.

How are special requirements for containers in long-distance transport taken into account?

Dangerous goods, temperature-controlled goods, bulk or open-top containers require special planning and equipment. We select the appropriate equipment, check deadlines and take regulations into account. This results in a solution that meets both legal requirements and the needs of your cargo.

Which routes does GLOMB serve in long-haul container transport?

We connect the seaports of northern Germany with all major industrial centres in Germany and many locations across Europe. This includes, for example, routes to the Benelux countries, France, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania. Depending on your needs, we arrange regular services or individual shipments.
Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania are handled by our Eastern Europe department from the German seaports.

Does GLOMB offer one-way solutions for long-distance transport?

Yes, we use one-way solutions to reduce empty runs and utilise containers more efficiently. For example, a container unloaded domestically can be used directly for an export order. This intelligent management of full and empty movements saves costs and conserves resources.

Can long-haul transport be combined with interim storage?

If goods cannot be collected directly or if consolidated shipments are required, long-haul transport can be combined with warehousing services. Containers can be temporarily stored or transhipped at suitable locations. We integrate these elements into the transport planning and coordinate the processes with the partners involved.

Ongoing communication with drivers, customers and involved service providers ensures that all information is up to date. This allows us to manage even demanding projects reliably.

When do I need a specialised solution instead of standard transport?

A specialised solution makes sense if your load deviates from the standard in terms of dimensions, weight, sensitivity or dangerous goods classification. This applies, for example, to oversized machinery, temperature-controlled goods, dangerous goods or bulk cargo in containers. In a brief discussion, we will determine whether the use of specialised equipment is required.

Are special transport services available across Europe?

Many specialised services can be offered not only within Germany but also in other European countries. This applies, for example, to heavy haulage, dangerous goods in containers, conventional project cargo and waste disposal logistics. Existing partner networks and our experience facilitate planning across national borders.

Can specialised transport solutions be combined with container logistics?

Yes, many projects combine standard containers and specialised loads. We can plan side-loaders, tipper chassis, heavy-duty trailers and container chassis to create a seamless concept. This means you have fewer interfaces and can utilise the strengths of both standard and specialised logistics at the same time.

We offer complete solutions, from technical planning and applying for permits to carrying out the transport. This includes route and bridge inspections, load distribution calculations, organising escort vehicles and road closures, and coordinating with crane companies or transhipment points. This ensures your project remains manageable, even when highly complex.

How does GLOMB ensure safety for oversized and heavy haulage?

Our drivers are specially trained for heavy-haul transport and are familiar with the specific handling characteristics of the vehicles. Load securing, axle loads and route requirements are carefully planned and documented. Escort vehicles and coordination with the authorities ensure that the transport takes place in accordance with legal requirements and safety measures.

Are heavy haulage operations also possible internationally?

Yes, we also carry out oversized and heavy haulage internationally, particularly within Europe. We work with partners and authorities in the respective countries to take account of the different regulations and approval processes. This results in seamless cross-border solutions.

What types of transport does GLOMB classify as oversized and heavy haulage?

These include loads that exceed the standard dimensions and weights for road transport. Examples include particularly long, wide or tall goods, as well as very heavy machinery or plant components. Such transports require special trailers, detailed route planning and official permits.

What fleet does GLOMB have for heavy haulage?

We use tractor units with increased towing capacity, as well as various low-loader trailers, semi-low-loaders and flatbed trailers with different axle configurations and payloads. This enables us to cover a wide range of dimensions and select the combination that best suits your load, both technically and economically.

How much lead time is required for a heavy haulage operation?

The lead time depends on the scope, route and permit requirements. For many projects, several weeks should be allowed so that all checks, applications and organisational steps can be completed in good time. We will clarify the timeframe required for your specific project during an initial discussion.

Transport of dangerous goods

How are trucks and drivers equipped for the transport of dangerous goods?

Our trucks are fitted with the mandatory ADR equipment, such as fire extinguishers, warning signs and personal protective equipment. Drivers hold a valid ADR certificate and undergo regular refresher training. Internal processes and a dangerous goods safety officer ensure that regulations are adhered to and documentation is kept correctly.

How does GLOMB handle dangerous goods with an increased risk potential?

For high-risk dangerous goods, we draw up a safety plan in accordance with the relevant regulations. This includes additional measures, such as special parking arrangements, internal communication channels and coordinated routes. The aim is to systematically minimise risks throughout the entire transport chain.

What advantages does GLOMB offer as a partner for dangerous goods transport?

You benefit from an experienced team that has a thorough understanding of legal requirements and practical challenges. Our combination of specialised equipment, trained staff and established procedures ensures that dangerous goods transport runs efficiently and safely. At the same time, you maintain a clear overview thanks to dedicated contact persons.

What types of dangerous goods does GLOMB transport in containers?

We transport dangerous goods in containers in accordance with ADR guidelines and national regulations. Not all classes are equally permissible, which is why we assess each enquiry based on the substances involved, UN numbers and safety data sheets. This ensures that the transport is compatible with our trucks and processes.

What documents does GLOMB require for a dangerous goods consignment?

Among other things, we require the transport document containing all the prescribed details, the correct ADR classification and the relevant safety data sheets. Depending on the substance and route, further documents may be required. Our staff will assist you in preparing the documents so that they are complete and legally compliant.

Can combined dangerous goods and waste transport operations also be carried out?

In certain cases, the goods in question are hazardous waste that falls under both dangerous goods legislation and waste legislation. Such transports require particular care. We assess each case individually and coordinate the necessary measures with our dangerous goods and waste disposal experts.

Reefer transport

Can reefer transport be combined with interim storage?

Yes, we work with partners who can supply and store reefer containers at fixed locations. This allows the road section to be combined with storage periods to form a continuous temperature-controlled chain. Our dispatch team coordinates arrivals and departures.

How does GLOMB plan time-critical reefer transport?

For temperature-controlled shipments, adherence to time slots is a particularly high priority. We take this into account when planning routes, select suitable routes and maintain close contact with terminals and recipients. If conditions change, we look for alternatives at an early stage.

Can reefer transport be combined with other GLOMB services?

Reefer transport can be combined with container logistics, China Rail pre- and post-carriage, Westhafen transport and other specialist solutions. This allows us to manage complex supply chains for temperature-sensitive goods without you having to coordinate numerous different service providers.

How does GLOMB ensure the power supply for the refrigerated containers?

We use chassis fitted with generator sets and tractor units equipped with TRS systems, which can actively supply power to the container. Before setting off, our drivers check the settings on the generator set. During transport, the system’s operation and indicators are regularly monitored to ensure the cold chain remains stable.

What types of reefer containers does GLOMB transport?

We transport 20-, 40- and 45-foot reefer containers, including high-cube variants. In addition, we transport insulated containers that can be operated with their own power supply as required. Together, this provides a wide range of temperature-controlled solutions for different types of goods.

What specific requirements should customers bear in mind for reefer transport?

Clear temperature specifications, information on sensitive stages of the journey and details of any special characteristics of the goods are important. The more precisely we know these details, the better we can tailor the planning, coordination with terminals and monitoring during transit to your needs.

Conventional transport

How is load securing carried out for conventional transport?

Load securing is carried out in accordance with the relevant guidelines and is performed by trained staff. We use suitable lashing equipment and aids to achieve secure fastening that is both form-fitting and force-locking. The sturdy superstructures of our trailers allow for efficient and, at the same time, safe securing.

Is conventional transport available across Europe?

Yes, with our curtain-sided trailers we can carry out conventional transport within Germany and to other European countries. We will assess whether this is suitable for your specific case based on the route, transit times and the requirements of your load.

How is the quotation calculated for conventional transport?

We take into account the route, loading and unloading conditions, volume and special requirements such as load securing or additional equipment. On this basis, we prepare a transparent quotation. For regular services, framework agreements may also be appropriate.

What does conventional transport mean at GLOMB?

Conventional transport refers to shipments where goods are transported on tarpaulin-covered trailers rather than in containers. This can include general cargo, palletised goods or bulky loads. These shipments often complement containerised projects or provide standalone transport solutions for specific goods.

What trailers does GLOMB use for conventional transport?

We use modern curtain-sided semi-trailers with increased structural strength in accordance with Code XL. These semi-trailers enable secure load securing and flexible loading and unloading from the side or from the rear. In combination with our tractor units, they are suitable for national and international transport.

When is conventional transport a sensible addition to container logistics?

Conventional transport is ideal when components do not fit into containers or when additional goods need to be moved alongside container shipments. This may be the case for project logistics, spare parts or packaging materials. We plan both areas so that deliveries are coordinated.

Tipping chassis transport

What advantages does a tipper chassis offer compared to other solutions?

With a tipper chassis, the container can be emptied directly at silos, transhipment facilities or recycling plants without the need for additional stationary unloading equipment. The unloading process is efficient and easily controlled. This reduces the effort and time required on the recipient’s part.

Can tipper chassis transport be combined with waste management logistics?

Yes, tipper chassis are frequently used in waste management logistics, for example when emptying containers of waste or recyclables. We plan transport and emptying in such a way that the requirements of waste and hazardous goods legislation are met.

How does the planning of a tipper chassis transport work?

You provide us with the type and quantity of bulk material, the container type and the planned unloading location. We check the technical and legal requirements and prepare a quote. Transport and emptying are then planned so that everyone involved knows exactly what needs to be done and when.

What does GLOMB use tipper chassis for?

Tipping chassis are primarily used for the transport and unloading of imported bulk goods in 20-foot containers. These include, for example, raw materials, recycled materials or certain products from the food and chemical industries. The container is tipped in a controlled manner at the destination so that the bulk goods can be unloaded safely.

What requirements must unloading sites for tipper chassis meet?

The unloading site requires sufficient space and a load-bearing, preferably level surface. In addition, safety requirements – for example regarding the surroundings, gradient and accessibility – must be met. Our dispatch team will discuss with you in advance whether the planned location is suitable for the operation.

Which containers are suitable for use with tipper chassis?

As a rule, 20-foot bulk containers designed for bulk goods transport are used. Whether a container is suitable for tipping depends on its construction and load. We will check this with you and advise on the most appropriate combination.

Waste disposal logistics

In which countries does GLOMB provide waste disposal logistics?

We organise waste transport within Germany as well as cross-border to selected neighbouring countries. This includes, in particular, transport to and from the Netherlands and Belgium. We will assess other routes together based on legal requirements and the capabilities of our partners.

How is documentation handled in waste disposal logistics?

We take care of the necessary certificates and accompanying documents and work together with the waste management companies and producers involved. Digital and paper-based processes are combined in a way that is so that legal requirements are met and procedures remain transparent for all parties involved.

What advantages does GLOMB offer as a partner for waste management logistics?

Our experience in the field of waste and hazardous goods, combined with a fleet tailored to these requirements, offers you a high degree of certainty in your planning. You receive transport, documentation and coordination with the relevant authorities from a single source. At the same time, you benefit from the structure of an established container logistics specialist.

What services does GLOMB offer in waste management logistics?

We handle national and cross-border transport of waste in containers. This includes both non-hazardous and hazardous waste, which is transported in accordance with the Circular Economy Act, the Waste Documentation Ordinance and hazardous goods legislation.
Our transport operations always comply with legal requirements, ensuring that the entire process is carried out in accordance with the law. We work with certified waste disposal companies and ensure safe and proper transport.

What role does the A sign play in waste transport?

The A sign identifies trucks transporting waste in accordance with legal requirements. It signals to other road users and authorities that special regulations apply. Our trucks are equipped accordingly and deployed when carrying out waste transport operations for which this marking is required.

Can hazardous waste be transported in a container?

Hazardous waste can be transported in a container provided that the requirements of both waste legislation and dangerous goods regulations are met. This includes suitable packaging, documentation and truck equipment. We assess each transport on a case-by-case basis and ensure that all requirements are met.
